Munich 2018

The countdown to the Olympics application

It was a superlative Open-Air Festival: on 6th July 2011, 25,000 Olympics fans arrived in Munich city centre to experience the countdown for the application for the Winter Olympics 2018. This festival was organised and designed by Eventpool 2018, a partnership of eight renowned representatives of the Bavarian event sector.

As one of the leading agencies in Munich, trendhouse Eventmarketing was responsible for the set-up and dismantling as well as logistics, including the authorisations from the authorities on site. The result was overwhelming olympics-enthusiasm and a roaring festival with various show stages, public viewing, star guests, VIP lounges and high-class entertainment. The Bavarian television transmitted the whole day live and also let the audience participate in the mega event in front of their televisions.

Despite great enthusiasm, in the end, the event had no influence on the decision of the IOC in Durban in South Africa. The Olympians decided to go with South Korea. Nevertheless, the Eventpool team and the audience in Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen have clearly demonstrated one thing: how to really celebrate winter sport! Munich 2022? Perhaps.
